A loving mother. If the male is a bit of a fighter, the female is a caring mother. She is one of the few butterflies that looks after her eggs and cateripillars hence the name, Great Eggfly. She sits on the same leaf where she lays her eggs and sees off any parasitic wasps or flies that come too near. Parasitic wasps are one of the major problems that caterpillars face so it is surprising that maternal care is not more commong in the butterfly world.
